What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathic treatment does not just treat the symptoms but looks at the body as a whole.

Osteopathy is a ‘hands on’ approach to many conditions, but it is commonly associated with the treatment of low back or spinal pain.

Osteopathic treatment does not just treat the symptoms but looks at the body as a whole. Osteopaths will assess the symptomatic area, but will also take into account the person’s general state of health including stress and emotional factors, which may be causing tension in the soft tissues and stopping the healing process.

Through this holistic approach osteopathy is aimed at locating and treating the cause of the problem rather than just controlling the symptoms.

The belief of Osteopathy is to maintain good structural balance and function throughout the musculo-skeletal system including the spine, joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons, which will enable it to keep working at its optimum.

How can it help?

Good structural balance will positively influence the nerve, blood and lymph flow which have an affect on the overall health of the bodies tissues and internal organs. It is because of this that osteopathy, as well as treating the obvious back & neck pain, is also aimed at improving general health and well being.

What is Cranial Osteopathy?

Cranial osteopathy uses extremely gentle techniques, so much so it can even be used on newborn babies, and is used to release strain and tension patterns throughout the body. It is known as ‘cranial’ osteopathy as the majority of the treatment is carried out using gentle pressure on the head (cranium). Cranial treatment may also involve gentle contact to the spine and tailbone (sacrum).
